Mayor M.V. Ratna Bindu has condemned the allegations of Opposition parties, CPI and CPI (M), that the ruling Congress party was permitting bars in parks in the city.
The Opposition parties criticised that being a woman mayor, Ms. Ratna Bindu, opened gates for bars at public places.
Responding to it, Ms. Ratna Bindu, on Tuesday, said the Opposition parties were levelling baseless allegations against her. The State government issued No Objection Certificate (NOC) to the bars at the parks, she said, adding, “I have no role to play in it.”
The Tourism Department gave permission to those bars, she said.
The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) would shortlist the subjects to be placed before the Standing Committee.
The Mayor would not decide which subjects or issues should be brought to the notice of the standing committee, she explained.
Earlier, the CPI corporators staged a sit in protest in front of VMC council hall in protest against proposal to allow bars in parks like V.M. Ranga Park.
They raised slogans against the Mayor and the proposal.
