With mercury rising, sodas, with at least half-a-dozen flavours, are helping the people of Masula to quench their thirst in the scorching summer heat.
With the season of water melon production coming to an end by the early June, people increasingly prefer the chilled soda to keep the body cool.
The flavours of the soda available include strawberry, fruit beer, apple, kala khatta, lemon and orange.
Children as well as the older generation love the taste of the soda, with lemon and orange finding favour with the latter, owing to the sweltering weather and humidity.
The temperature is hovering around 40 degree Celsius, leaving people to find several ways to mitigate it even in the June without any sign of rains. Adding to the woes of summer, the power cut between 12 noon and 2 p.m has been forcing people to remain outdoors, creating an additional demand for the soda flavours. “It’s exciting to taste strawberry fruit flavour before the summer fruit actually arrives in the market,” said Machilipatnam resident K. Eswara Rao. A glass of any flavour of soda is priced at Rs. 6, which is low when compared with that of cold drinks, coconuts or fruits.
Many people are trying it unable to forget the taste the soda flavours, which were once ruled the market in summer earlier. “Children wanted to have their interested flavour at the hub”, said a few parents.
