Masula, Srikakulam, Vizianagaram upgraded into corporations

Machilipatnam, Srikakulam and Vizianagaram municipalities have been upgraded into municipal corporations with immediate effect. The State Government has issued orders to this effect on Wednesday.

From now on Machilipatnam municipality will be called as Machilipatnam Municipal Corporation. Srikakulam Municipality will be named as Srikakulam Municipal Corporation and Vizianagaram municipality will be known as Vizianagaram Municipal Corporation.

While, the municipal councils of Machilipatnam and Srikakulam had passed resolution to constitute as the municipalities as municipal corporations on September 30, 2015, Vizianagaram municipality had passed its resolution on July 31, 2015.

The Vizianagaram municipality had also resolved to include 15 gram panchayats and parts of the Nellimarla Nagara Panchayat i.e., 2 to 15 wards and part of 16{+t}{+h}ward of the Nellimarla Nagara Panchayat into the Vizianagaram Municipal Corporation. Though the municipality resolved, the government did not consider the inclusion of 15 gram panchayats and others into the new corporation.
