Unable to bear the pain from the injuries she sustained, the acid attack victim in Machilipatnam had once sought ‘mercy killing’ and had pleaded with her parents to appeal to the authorities for it on her behalf.
The victim’s father revealed that his daughter wanted an end to her pain. This was when she was undergoing treatment at the Government General Hospital in Vijayawada.
Incidentally, the victim, attacked by one Subhani, has regained her vision and is now out of danger. She was attacked on the night of March 29 in Machilipatnam.
“She has completely recovered from the trauma and is now able to see like any other normal person after treatment,” the hospital’s surgery department in-charge Prof. K. Appa Rao said. He added that no surgery was required to restore her vision. A team of doctors led by Mr. Appa Rao is keeping the girl under observation.
The victim’s mother, who tried to rescue her daughter from the attack, needs a few more weeks to recover from the burn injuries she had sustained. She is also said to be out of danger.
Machilipatnam Deputy Superintendent of Police K.V. Srinivasa Rao said the accused, Subhani, would be discharged from the hospital this week. “We will take him into custody soon after he is discharged from the hospital,” he added.
The financial aid for the victim, recommended by the Krishna District Police in accordance with the Supreme Court directive, is likely to be released by mid-May, according to police.
On March 30, doctors at the Government Hospital, Machilipatnam, had referred the victim to the Vijayawada hospital for better medical treatment.
Subhani, an imitation jewellery worker, lived at Machilipatnam with his wife and two children. He resorted to the extreme step after the victim rejected his marriage proposal.
