Mass administration of anti-filariasis drug begins

The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation has embarked upon the daunting task of making 9.24 lakh people in the city swallow anti-filariasis drug on Friday.

Municipal Commissioner G. Ravibabu participated in a programme of administering the drug to the people at the municipal stadium in Ajitsinghnagar.

Talking to the officials, the Commissioner said they should insist on the people swallowing the tablets right in front of them.

The Commissioner, appealing to the people to make best use of the anti-filariasis drug that was being distributed free of cost, asked the people to make all those they know to swallow the pills.

Vijayawada Central MLA Malladi Vishnu, participating in a programme at Krishna Lanka Municipal Corporation School, said 3,000 staff were involved in the endeavour in the municipal corporation limits. He said it was better to prevent the disease then suffer from it.

VMC Chief Medical Officer Satyanarayana Raju, additional health officers Sridevi, Lakshmikumari, and Z. Srinivasa Rao, and health educator Kantha Kumari participated.
