Arif allegedly threatened a couple; disquiet over his high connections

: The city police are on the lookout for a man who allegedly threatened a couple at gunpoint with his licensed revolver a couple of days ago.

The accused Arif, who runs an AC repair shop under Suryaraopet police station limits, allegedly threatened another shopowner and his wife while they were returning home on Tuesday night. Professional rivalry is said to be the motive.

The alleged illegal activities of the mechanic came to light after the couple lodged a complaint with Commissioner of Police D. Gautam Sawang.

Following the orders of the CP, the accused was booked under Sections 341, 506 and 509, Suryaraopet Inspector G. Vinay Mohan told The Hindu .

“The accused is on the run and we are tracking him down,” he added.

Possession of licensed revolver by a normal mechanic raised eyebrows of police officers who plunged into action to trace the alleged activities of Arif.

It is also alleged that Arif had made several land settlements with the help of some police personnel.

Probe on, says CP

The fact that Arif’s revolver licence application was recommended by police personnel and politicians only strengthened the allegations against him now.

He was later given the licence.

When contacted, Mr. Sawang said that there were various allegations being made against the accused and investigation into each of them was on.

“Only after apprehending the accused we can draw some conclusion about his alleged activities”, Mr. Sawang told The Hindu .
