Flowering is early and good in this season, says horticulture official
Farmers should take steps to prevent the spread of leaf hopper by spraying the necessary pesticide on mango flowering which is earlier than expected this season, Horticulture Assistant Director P.M.Subbani has said.
He said that the flowering was early and good in the Nuzvid section as compared to that of the Mylavaram section. He said that farmers should go for a spraying to prevent the spread of fungus also. While there was 25 to 30 per cent flowering in Mylavaram section, the flowering in Nuzvid section had crossed 50 per cent, he said.
He said flowering would be over and fruiting would begin in a month.
Mr. Subbani said that the Horticulture Department was giving 50 per cent subsidy on permanent pandals needed for the cultivation of gourds like snake, ridge and bitter gourds.
The cost of permanent pandals in one acre was around Rs. 1.2 lakh and vegetable farmers were eligible for 50 per cent subsidy. By permanent pandals, the farmers can erect stone or cement concrete pillars in their gardens. He said farmers interested in availing the subsidy of permanent pandals could contact the horticultural officials based at Nuzvid for details and guidance.
