Man charred to death in a freak mishap in Guntur

In a freak mishap, a man was killed and his accomplice suffered serious burn injuries on Kanakadurga varadhi at Tadepalli here on Thursday. The man identified as Yelagala Seetharam was a resident of Guntur and was working at Reliance Communications office in Vijayawada.

The incident took place when the duo was heading towards Vijayawada to report for work at the Reliance 4G Communication Services. While trying to overtake a car, the duo hit the foot path.

As their bike screeched on the road, a can of turpentine oil used in painting the foot path spilled on the bike. The fire from sparks which emanated from the collision quickly engulfed the duo.

While, Seetharam died on the spot after suffering serious burns, his accomplice Narayana Swamy was rushed to a private hospital.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (Guntur North) G. Ramakrishna said that the accident was due to rash and negligent driving. He also said that warning boards had been put up on the bridge since the maintenance works had been taken up by the NHAI a few days ago.
