The city-based Samana Institute of Fashion Technology (SIFT) is now Samana Institute for Design Studies (SIDS).
Lending a complete makeover to the institute, its CEO Samana Moosavi has roped in senior costume designers drawn from reputed firms associated with big names in the fashion industry.
Costume designers P. Sri Nivas Rao, Rajasekhar Narayan and Vaishali Menon are now associated with the institute to groom it as a world-class fashion institute.
Mr. Sri Nivas will be the chief mentor and Director of the SIDS while Mr. Narayan, a product of National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, and Vaishali Menon, who has designed costumes for many Bollywood films and has won a Filmfare award for her work in Hindi film Firaq, will be senior faculty members updating the local students with the global trends and familiarising them with the world-class design schemes.
The re-christening ceremony was marked by release of a new brochure of the SIDS which will offer courses like a three-year Bachelor Degree and one-year diploma in design and P.G. Diploma in fashion designing, interior designing, graphic designing and jewellery designing.
“Students at SIDS have all it takes to make good fashion designers. All they need is adequate exposure which is lacking here. We intend to familiarise these youngsters with the latest trends in the fashion industry and bring in world-class designers who will hand-hold them through their journey,” said Mr. Sri Nivas. \
Addressing SIDS students after the formal inaugural, Ms. Menon explained to them some fundamental aspects of costume designing. She said the language barrier which acted as a hurdle would soon disappear and the girls will be in a position to communicate freely.
“I have roped in big names as faculty of SIDS as I wanted to move to the next level of finesse that ultimately matters in designing fashion costumes. With their entry, the students here are bound to shine in their performance,” said Ms. Samana.
