The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) swung into action to protect the property belonging to Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, at Mogalrajpuram here.

The Corporation put up fencing to the land located near Current Baavi at Mogalrajpuram. The VMC cleaned the surroundings and cleared the debris dumped in it. Municipal Commissioner G. Ravi Babu instructed the officials to construct a platform to install a statue of Gandhiji as a memorial. He also wanted them to develop greenery in the land.

It may be recalled that The Hindu had reported that a piece of land donated to Gandhiji is being used as a ground to dump the garbage. It was reported that the VMC was making a mockery of its own caution board by putting up a dumper bin at the spot.

The dumper bin is very close to the caution board which says: “The land belongs to Gandhiji, and is in possession of Municipal Corporation. So it should not be used for parking or dumping garbage. Violators would be punished.”
