Machilipatnam Imitation Jewellery Park downs shutters

Protesters under several banners on Wednesday took out rallies against the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh in the Krishna district headquarters. Central Reserve Police Force companies were deployed along the town’s main street, from Laxmi Theatre junction to Koneru Centre to avert any untoward incidents.

The biggest procession was taken out by workers of the imitation jewellery industry. A few thousand workers of Machilipatnam Imitation Jewellery Park organised a procession from the park to Koneru centre in vehicles which they decorated like chariots with imitation jewellery. The people at the different junctions spontaneously joined the rally and raised slogans in support of a United Andhra.

Human chain

The workers of the imitation jewellery industry formed a human chain and later joined the on-going relay fast at the Koneru Centre.

Employees JAC leaders, Machilipatnam Municipal Commissioner S. Siva Rama Krishna and other administrative staff participated in a relay fast in front of the Machilipatnam Municipality building

The vehicular movement on the main road was stopped several times at regular intervals during the day by various groups protesting against the division of the State.
