In an attempt to keep a close watch on criminal activities, the police have installed CCTV camera surveillance system in at least 32 strategic locations in Machilipatnam, the headquarters for Krishna district.
Excise and B.C. Welfare Minister K. Ravindra on Sunday inaugurated the ‘central monitoring centre of the surveillance system’ set up at the Robertson police station.
Machilipatnam Member of Parliament K. Narayana has allocated funds for the project under the MP Local Area Development Scheme. Krishna District SP J. Prabhakara Rao accompanied by Collector M. Raghunandan Rao said that this was the third town in the district to have CC camera surveillance facility.
Previously, the police experienced significant results in prevention of crime rate with this technology support in Pamarru and Jaggayyapeta and Gudivada towns.
LocationsIn Machilipatnam, the areas that have been brought under the surveillance included the Three-pillar Centre on the national highway, Koneru Centre, bus terminus, government hospital, fish market, rythu bazaar and etc.
Speaking on the occasion, Machilipatnam Municipal Chairman M. Baba Prasad promised to extend the necessary support from the civic body to the police in bringing down the crime rate further.
Additional Superintendent of Police B.D.V. Sagar and other senior officials of the department were also present at the inauguration of the central monitoring centre of the surveillance system.
