L.V. Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI)’s Kode Venkatadri Chowdary Campus, Vijayawada, completed five years on February 16.
Addressing a press conference, founder and chairman of the Institute, Gullaplli N Rao, said the eye institute is launching several new initiatives to consolidate its network of eye care service delivery and leadership position in the eye health space to commemorate the landmark year.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu will launch the Andhra Pradesh Eye Banking Initiative and inaugurate the Tej Kohli Eye Bank. The goal of this initiative is to make Andhra Pradesh free from Corneal Blindness by the year 2025, Dr Rao said.
The Tej Kohli Eye Bank in Vijayawada is the fourth in LVPEI’s network of eye banks across its tertiary campuses, he said.
Union Minister for Urban Development M Venkaiah Naidu, would launch the Vijayawada component of this initiative.
Minister for Health Kamineni Srinivas will launch the Children’s Eye Health Initiative (supported by USAID).
The LVPEI network currently includes a Centre of Excellence in Hyderabad, 3 tertiary centres in Bhubaneswar, Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada, 15 secondary care centres, and 130 primary care vision centres that cover the remotest rural areas in the four States of Odisha, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.
