Post Master-General (PMG) of Vijayawada region M. Sampath, launched the logistics post service on two new routes on Wednesday.
“The new facility has been launched on Vijayawada-Vuyyuru-Machilipatnma and Vijayawada-Eluru-Tadepalligudem-Tanuku routes,” he told a press conference.
The logistics post service is already available on Vijayawada - Guntur - Ongole - Gudur - Chennai route and Vijayawada-Suryapet - Hyderabad route, while it plans to extend the facility very soon on Vijayawada-Visakhapatnam route as well.
Mr. Sampath said the department recorded a turnover of Rs. 35.5 lakhs in Vijayawada region under logistics post in the last financial year, while this year it was aiming to do a business of Rs. 2 crores.
The service was designed to cater to the moving goods, parcels and consignments in terms of delivery deadline and quality of service. It managed the entire distribution side of the logistics infrastructure, from collection to distribution, from storage to carriage. “It is an ideal service for sending large consignments, including multi-parcels and goods of any weight,” he said.
The tariff would depend on weight, volume and distance of the consignment. For corporate customers, the department offered tailor-made services at special rates.
The department had 10 vehicles of its own in the region to carry consignments under logistics post in addition to hired vehicles to meet the demand. Tenders had been called for hiring additional closed body vehicles that would operate in important LTL routes. The list of local clientele utilising this service of the Department of Posts include Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences, Vijayawada, Acharya Nagarjuna University, Guntur, Hitech Print Systems at Pedautpalli and M/s Pawan Hans Helicopters Ltd., New Delhi.
Other important subscribers are city-based Century Steel Tubes Ltd., Indian Oil Corporation, Kondapalli, Kollipara Electrodes, Bhushan Power and Steel Ltd, West Bengal, Krishna Granites, Ongole, Patel Enterprises etc.
