Members of Life Insurance Agents’ Federation of India (LIAFI) on Saturday appealed to the Centre to create a welfare fund for LIC agents and extend provident fund, medical claim, conveyance, pension, and other benefits.
At the Machilipatnam Division Council general body meeting held here, the members sought recognition for their profession and urged the government to take measures to strengthen LIC of India and withdraw plans to increase FDI in insurance sector from 26 per cent to 49 per cent.
Minister for Agriculture Kanna Lakshminarayana and LIAFI All India secretary-general N. Gajapathi Rao inaugurated the programme. Machilipatnam Division Council president B. Markandeyulu presided over the meeting.
Addressing the agents, the Minister lauded the services of LIC agents, who were pillars for the corporation. Due to the hard work of the agents, LIC was in a position to invest for other companies, he said.
Mr. Gajapathi Rao urged the government to drop the proposal to impose service tax on insurance sector, enhance bonus for policy holders to attract them, increase gratuity for agents, and provide group insurance facility.
