The Central government should make 18 per cent budgetary allocations for the development and welfare of the Scheduled Castes and for the Scheduled Tribes 8 per cent, demanded the Left parties in a joint statement here.
Representatives of the Communist Party of India, Communist Party of India (Marxist) and other splinter groups like the CPI (ML), CPIML (New Democracy), MCPI(U), CPI-ML (Liberation) addressing a press conference together said that the budgetary allocations for SCs and STs in Andhra Pradesh were not in proportion to their population.
The speakers including Krishna Kishore Yadla (CPI), V.Umamaheswara Rao (CPI-M), K.Rama Rao (CPI-ML New Democracy), CPI (ML) Muppalla Bhargavasri, G.Prasad (MCPI-U) and V.Nagamani (CPI-ML Liberation) demanded that a separate legislation be enacted for the allocation of funds in the budget to SCs and STs in proportion to their populations.
The leaders said that the budgetary allocations were not according to the population figures of the SCs and STs in the State of Andhra Pradesh in which the population of SCs had increased to 18 per cent and STs to 8 per cent. The speakers demanded that budget that could not be spent in a particular year should be added on to the budget of the subsequent year. Nodal teams should be established at district and mandal levels for the spending of the funds, they demanded.
