Lecture on cyclones

A speech on cyclones was organised here at the Institution of Engineers buildings on Wednesday. K. Ramachandra Rao, Director, Cyclone Detection Radar Centre, Machilipatnam, spoke on various aspects of a cyclone and its effect on the people.

Mr. Rao talked about some of the basic aspects regarding cyclones and the circumstances of their origin. He talked about the terms being used for cyclone in many countries. Topics covered included formation of cyclones, monitoring cyclones, intensity and the damage potential of cyclones.

Mr. Rao classified the cyclone warning messages issued by the government. M. Prakasha Rao, president, Institution of Engineers local chapter and V. Mallikarjun, joint secretary, were present.
