It’s time to board the Science Express and escape into the land of indigenous flora and fauna created in the 16 coaches of the special train. The fun way to learn more about science starts from outside the train itself with all the windows covered with images of the various flora and fauna. The main attraction was the “Joy of Science”, a working lab in the last coach of the train where various science experiments in the subjects of Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology will be conducted for school children.

Explaining about the lab, Project Staff Siji Thomas said that true to the name they would be showing children the fun way to learn the various mathematical theorems. She said that they would simplify the complex theorems with the help of models and demos. This opportunity is open for children studying in sixth standard to 10th standard of any school she informed.

Apart from the lab, eight coaches of the train are dedicated to showcase the myriad biodiversity of the different locales in India. One of the coaches had on display various facets of the country like marine life bio diversity, their linkage with livelihood and challenges of conservation. Another coach had an exhibition on climate change, bio diversity and water while an exhibition on energy conservation was put up in another coach.

Stationed at the Vijayawada Railway Station till Sunday, the train is a collaborative initiative of Department of Science and Technology and Ministry of Environment and Forests. School students can participate in the Joy of Science Lab in batches of 30 students by prior registration.
