The people complained the visiting officials and MLA that drinking water was a biggest challenge faced by them.

The cyclone Nilam also brought the visit of several Opposition leaders and MLAs in the localities that were badly hit due to the intermittent rains here on Sunday. CPI State secretary K. Narayana, city secretary Donepudi Sankar, CPI-M city secretary Ch. Babu Rao, MLAs Velampalli Srinivas and Malladi Vishnu, MLC Ilapuram Venkaiah and others visited the rain affected areas.

Dr. Narayana said the Congress government had announced modernisation of Budameru with Rs. 40 crore. The government, however, did not spend a single rupee on the modernisation works. It was enough to portray how dedicated the government was, he said, adding, the government should take up Budameru modernisation works immediately.

CPI city assistant secretaries P. Durga Bhavani, G. Koteswara Rao and others were also present. Mr. Babu Rao recalled that the government announced that the modernisation works and flood prevention measures would be taken up with a cost of Rs. 300 crore. The Budameru Diversion Channel, Velagaleru Regulator etc would have to be modernised under the scheme. However, none became reality till date. The people became shelter less due to apathy of the government, he alleged.

The people complained the visiting officials and MLA that drinking water was a biggest challenge faced by them. They feared outbreak of communicable diseases and vector borne diseases due to intermittent rains. Responding to it, Mr. Srinivas asked the officials to supply safe drinking water through tankers and conduct medical camps. At Jakkampudi, Mr. Vishnu assured that the drinking water and other essential commodities would be provided to the residents.
