Principal Secretary, School Education Department, R. P. Sisodia, on Friday expressed displeasure over ‘laxity’ on the part of the officials concerned in construction of toilets in government schools across the State.

Target

Addressing a State-level meeting on construction of toilets by private organisations and corporate bodies in government schools, he said while the target was to complete the construction works by August 15, the officials concerned had failed to ensure the same despite a series of awareness sessions conducted in the last three months.

Pointing to the fact that against the given target of 14,322 toilets, only 4,875 units had been constructed so far, he said the organisations involved in the Swachch Vidyalaya drive must engage the local people, school education committee members and people’s elected representatives to ensure early completion of works.

Commissioner of School Education Sandhya Rani said it was unfortunate that 40 per cent of the State population did not use toilets and defecated in open spaces. She wanted the regional-level officers to educate the masses on the hazards of the practice.
