Land distributed

As part of the 5th phase of land distribution, which was held here on the premises of S.R.R. Boys High School on Wednesday, Animal Husbandry Minister K. Parthasarathy distributed 454.55 acres of land in Nuzvid revenue division to 519 beneficiaries. This took the total extent of land distributed so far to 8,747 acres to about 9,000 beneficiaries.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Parthasarathy said that the government was committed to eradicating poverty and providing equal opportunities to all sections of the society.

The Minister said that besides distributing land to the poor, the government would also allocate funds for the land development. “For the lands we have distributed today, Rs. 40 lakhs will be released under the NREGA and Rs. 60 lakhs from the NABARD, which will be used for converting the waste land into the land fit for agriculture by levelling it and digging bore-wells,” he said. Meetings would be conducted with the bankers for releasing agricultural loans to cultivate the land.

Referring to distribution of pensions to the aged, Mr. Parthasarathy said that plans were afoot to distribute new pensions to about 6 lakh beneficiaries. He asked the officials to make payments to the beneficiaries of Indiramma scheme before the commencement of ‘Prajapatham' programme.

Advice to beneficiaries

Eluru MP K. Sambasiva Rao advised the beneficiaries of land distribution programme to make better use of the land given to them and go ahead with cultivation in their own land.

He advised the officials to review the implementation of the programme and ensure that the land distributed to the poor so far was brought under cultivation. Municipal chairperson Maddirala Kotamma and others were present. .
