The city is growing fast, and more and more people are forced to search for peaceful places to live in, which can be found only on the outskirts. There are many colonies on the fringes, but only a few can give the much needed peace of mind.
Lakshmipuram Colony at Poranki is a small, beautiful place where not only the residents but also visitors get the feeling of being in a holiday resort.
This ‘feel good’ place has about 100 houses neatly constructed as per the approved layout and what gives them the distinct look is the greenery, the kind of which can be normally seen in a garden.
It was right at the time of formation of the colony in 1999 that hundreds of saplings were planted on the road-sides and in the plots too and residents today enjoy the ambience.
MVR College of Engineering Principal K.V. Sambasiva Rao, a resident of the colony, said most houses had ornamental plants giving pleasant look and there were some with medicinal properties like Aloe Vera.
Another aspect that stands out is Sri Venkateswara Swamy temple which the residents got constructed with the help of a big donor and their own contributions.
“Almost all children of the residents of our colony are very well-settled in jobs or are pursuing higher studies abroad, which would not be possible without the blessings of Lord Venkateswara”, said another resident Hanuman Singh, who is a businessman. The colony has underground drainage and also underground electrical wiring from the poles.
“And, we don’t have drinking water problem due to the presence of a big overhead tank which also caters to the needs of Poranki village. It was constructed under the Janmabhoomi scheme long back”, said retired bank manager Pingali Ramakrishna and P. Visweswara Rao, who is currently employed in KDCC Bank.
“The colony is so attractive and peaceful that most of the morning-walkers come from other areas”, M. Janardhan Rao said and added that they have a plan for construction of a community hall.
