Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State official spokesman V. Srinivasa Raju has said that the Coastal Andhra region was lagging behind in all aspects when compared to Telangana districts, and bifurcation of the State would benefit coastal districts.
“Vijayawada Parliament member, Lagadapati Rajagopal, who did nothing for his constituency was taking up ‘Samaikyandhra’ agitation just to highlight himself. The MP should organise ‘Kanuvippu Yatra’ before All India Congress Committee (AICC) president Sonia Gandhi, and open her eyes on bifurcation of the State, but not in front of TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu”, said Mr. Raju.
In an open letter shot to Mr. Rajagopal on Tuesday, the BJP leader explained about the benefits to Coastal Andhra region, if separate Statehood is carved for Telangana region.
According to the estimations of Rajahmundry MP Vundavalli Arun Kumar, 80 per cent of the revenue was getting from Andhra districts, but the region had no proper education facilities, drinking water projects, power generation units, fishing harbours, airports, roads and railway lines. If the State is divided, Centre will allot funds for development of the region and the revenue generated in Andhra region can be utilised for constructing gas grid, universities, industries, complete Polavaram and Pulichintala Projects, which can solve power shortage problem, he said.
The Centre, which promised to make a statement by January 28 on Telangana issue has postponed the matter and was creating violence in the State, Mr. Srinivasa Raju alleged.
