Case has been registered against a couple
The Labour Department officials rescued a 13-year-old maidservant, who was reportedly tortured by those with whom she was working. According to the victim, the employers – Sadupati Dayakar and his wife Sindhu – caused burns on her hands with a hot spoon for not working properly, said Assistant Commissioner of Labour (ACL) D. Anjaneya Reddy.
Explaining how the couple tortured her and caused burns on both the hands, the girl, a seventh class dropout, said that Sindhu used to beat her up over petty issues.
“My father is a labourer in Chevuturu village in G. Konduru mandal in Krishna district. One woman, Durgamma, engaged me for work and my sister was employed at the house of Sindhu’s mother Ratnalu, located on Pantakaluva Road in Patamata,” said the victim at a press conference held here on Tuesday.
The Labour Department officials registered a case against the couple with the Patamata police.
Cases were also registered against them under Juvenile Justice Act and Child Labour Prohibition and Regulation Act, said Mr. Reddy.
The special team also rescued another 12-year-old girl, engaged for work in a house at Krishnalanka in the city.
The girls would be sent to rehabilitation home, said the ACL.
