Mayor M.V. Ratna Bindu on Sunday advised the working class to get the benefits being extended by Central and State governments under different schemes.

She was addressing a meeting after inaugurating a free health camp organised by the Labour Department at Ajit Singh Nagar with the help of Chemists and Druggists Association, the Indian Red Cross Society and the Childline. Required medical tests were conducted at the camp by specialist doctors and medicines were distributed.

The Mayor appreciated the initiative by the Labour Department and stressed the need for the workers to maintain good health for better productivity. “A sound body is a prerequisite for an efficient work; more voluntary organisations have to extend their assistance for taking up similar health camps frequently,” she said.

“The health camp is being organised by the Labour Department for the benefit of the working class, the State government is embarking upon various schemes to for workers and employees,” she observed. Deputy Labour Commissioner Yousuf Sheik said that nearly 85,000 photo identity cards were issued for the working class and women workers will get Rs. 5,000 as maternity expenses. He assured effective implementation of financial assistance programmes and labour laws.
