January 27, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:46 am IST - VIJAYAWADA:

With the number of people travelling to various domestic and international destinations from this region on the rise, tour and travel operators are now focussing on the preferences of the local tourists.

Kuoni SOTC has joined the race to woo the local traveller. With more than 106 years of global experience and 60 years of local (Indian) experience, Kuoni SOTC has designed exclusive tour packages with a promise of value for money.

“Vijayawada market has tremendous potential. After a period of uncertainty, there is a reassuring stability factor that is encouraging an increasing number of people from this belt (Andhra) to make travel plans. The growth is significant, thanks to the increase in disposable income group,” says Anand Menon, General Manager, South, of the company.

The travel company organised a summer holiday bazaar at the Hotel D.V. Manor recently to inform, interact and entice the local crowd to its tour packages. “Prospects of travel segment in this region look positive and we expect around 60-70 per cent growth. Unlike in the past when the travellers would prefer Thailand, Dubai and Hong Kong, an increasing number of people are now willing to travel to the US and European countries,” says Mr. Menon.

The road show organised on the occasion also evoked a good response with a steady flow of people walking in to make curious enquiries about their favourite destinations. A good number of SOTC staff attended to the visitors seated in tables placed around the hall.

With travel becoming a an essential part of annual budget in many households, the SOTC has introduced new destinations in its schemes including South America, Fiji, Bali, Alaska, European Riviera, Vietnam and Cambodia. “We also design packaged tours. Our ‘European Spice’ envisages a possibility where all Telugu people can travel together,” says Mr. Menon.
