The Zilla Parishad meeting held here on Sunday passed a budget with an estimated annual income of Rs. 323.64 crores and surplus of Rs. 51.07 crores for the year 2010-11. The meeting presided over by Zilla Parishad chairman K. Nageswara Rao, reviewed the progress of various departments. A sum of Rs. 20.49 crores was allocated for public works and Rs. 10.8 crores for secondary education. The meeting also passed the revised budget for the year 2009-10.
Addressing the meeting, Mr. Nageswara Rao asked the officials to chalk out plans to avoid drinking water scarcity during summer. He asked the engineers of Rural Water Supply department to conduct meetings at every mandal and identify villages where there was the problem of shortage of drinking water. He said that there was no dearth of funds to take up repairs to drinking water tanks and pipelines.
Animal Husbandry Minister K. Parthasarathy said that all the drinking water tanks in the district should be filled before the closure of the irrigation canals. He stressed the need for the identifying the villages there was a need to supply drinking water through tankers.
District Collector Peeyush Kumar said that the RWS scheme would be handed over to the village panchayats. He said that a sum of Rs. 3.3 crore was released to the district by the 12th Finance Commission and the funds were meant exclusively for supplying drinking water to the villages. The amount would be disbursed to all the village panchayats soon, he said.
