Krishna District Collector Buddha Prakash M. Jyothi unfurled the tricolour and received the guard of honour from the police at the 67 Independence Day celebrations on the premises of police grounds here on Thursday.
Addressing the gathering of children and a galaxy of prominent people including district officials and police, Mr. Buddha Prakash recollected the glorious memories of how selfless struggle of our freedom fighters had made India free from British rule.
Freedom fighters, who were present at the celebrations, received special respect from the officials. Since election code was in force in the wake of scheduled Avanigadda by-election, the absence of the political leaders was felt on Thursday. However, Machilipatnam MP K. Narayana attended the celebrations, which concluded with cultural performances from students.
Numerous students from local schools performed dances to the tune of Indian patriotic songs. A bunch of 30 students who were rescued by the Childline -1098 services stole the hearts of the audience with their skit cum song ‘Maa Tuje Salaam’. The students, who were once orphans, beggars and street children and from myriad hues of social background, received a standing ovation from the audience.
The joint Independence Day parade of the police, NCC and NSS was one of the attractions and government officers were also awarded service certificates. Krishna District Superintendent of Police J. Prabhakara Rao was also accompanied by the Collector while receiving the guard of honour from the police.
Krishna District Judge G. Chakradhara Rao hoisted national flag at District Court Complex at 7.30 a.m.
