Every effort will be made to develop Kondaveedu Fort into a national tourist destination, Zilla Parishad Chairperson Kuchipudi Vijaya said on Sunday.
Addressing a meeting held at Zilla Parishad Conference Hall, after unveiling a documentary film titled, “Kondaveedu Abhivrudhi”, Ms. Vijaya said that the State Government has already embarked on an ambitious project to showcase the 14th century fort as a historical monument .
A compact disc of an hour's duration was produced and directed by K. Siva Reddy, Convener, Kondaveedu Fort Development Committee, which has been in the forefront of efforts in developing the fort.
Mr. Siva Reddy said that the compact disc details the history of the fort beginning with the Reddy kingdom, the glorious times of Vema Reddy, the successive invasions by Muslim Kings and later the British and its subsequent degradation.
Guntur-Krishna Teacher Constituency MLC K.S. Lakshmana Rao said that after a lot of effort, the Government sanctioned an approach ghat road leading to the fort with an outlay of Rs.34 crore.
MLC T.G.V. Krishna Reddy said that Government is keen on promoting a tourism circuit connecting some of the important tourist centres like, Undavalli caves, Panakala Swamy Temple, Mangalagiri, Uppalapadu Bird Sanctuary, Buddhist Stupa, Amaravathi, ‘Veerula Gudi,' Karampudi etc.
