President Pranab Mukherjee must intervene and bring order to affairs in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly, said former PCC secretary Kolanukonda Sivaji.

Addressing a press conference here on Monday Mr. Sivaji, who is also the Samaikyandhra Political JAC Convener said that legislators from constituencies in Seemandhra region were subjected to intimidation and physical assault by MLAs of Telangana region.

Telangana Minister D.K. Aruna openly threatened Seemandhra Minister Sake Sailajanath. She said that he had to go across Mahaboobnagar, a district in Telangana region, to reach his home in Anantapur district, he pointed out. She said that the Minister would not be allowed to go through her district. Mr. Sivaji said that this was open intimidation and violation of Mr. Sailajanath’s Constitutional rights.

Tabling of Bill He said that the way the Andhra Pradesh State Reorganisation Bill 2013 was tabled in the Assembly was unconstitutional. The Bill was tabled by the Secretary of the Legislative Assembly apparently without the presence or permission of the Speaker. Such a thing had never been done before, he alleged.

Mr.Sivaji hoped that Speaker Nadendla Manohar had no role in these unconstitutional developments. Mr. Manohar’s father and former Chief Minister Nadendla Bhaskar Rao had created a legacy for himself when he “back-stabbed” the then Chief Minister N.T. Rama Rao. Mr. Manohar, who is the political protégé of D. Srinivas, would go down as ‘back-stabber’ of the Telugu people if he secretly stage-managed the happenings in the Legislative Assembly, Mr. Sivaji charged. Mr. Sivaji cutting across party lines hailed TDP MLA Devineni Umamaheswara Rao for raising a protest in the Assembly by tearing up copies of the Bill distributed. He also complimented the Seemandhra MLAs who registered their protest against the way the Bill was introduced in the Assembly.

City MLAs rapped The former PCC secretary criticised city Congress MLAs Malladi Vishnu and Vellampalli Srinivas for participating in the Unity Run organised in the city as part of a country-level event. He said that MLAs participating in the event that was “organised by the Sangh Parivar” insulted the Muslim Minorities and weaker sections.

He said that the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi was behind the event right from its very inception and conception. No Congress MLA, except the two from the city, participated in the run designed by Mr. Modi to “improve his brand image at the grassroots”, he said and demanded the MLAs to tender a public apology to the Minorities and Weaker Sections.
