Heart and Brain Institute Andhra Hospitals successfully performed a knee-replacement surgery using anti-oxidant implants on a 34-year-old patient.

Akash Saraswath, who was suffering from rheumatoid arthritis, was discharged on Monday after undergoing the surgery on Friday.

“Surgeons go for the conventional polyethylene and cross-linked polyethylene implant for knee replacement surgeries. But, most patients complain of pain while climbing steps and difficulty kneeling after the surgery,” said Dr. N. Jagadeesh, who performed the surgery.

According to him, antioxidant materials, which are compounds of Vitamin E, ensures durability, improved flexion, stability, better bone conservation and faster recovery.
