If everything goes as planned, Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy will inaugurate the K.L. Rao Sagar (Pulichintala) project on December 8. Erection of all 24 crest gates was completed but five gates are yet to be fitted with hoisting machines. Some minor works are set to be finished by the end of December, said Minister for Secondary Education Minister K. Parthasarathy.

Addressing media persons along with MLA Malladi Vishnu on Saturday, Mr. Parthasarathy said the Chief Minister would unveil a pylon at the project site and participate in a public meeting in Vijayawada city the same afternoon.

Farmers will start receiving water from the project in the coming kharif season.

The project will irrigate 13.08 lakh acres spread across Krishna, Guntur, West Godavari and Prakasam districts.

Besides, it will generate 120 mw (4 x 30 mw) of hydro-electric power in the future.

The K.L. Rao Sagar and Nagarjuna Sagar projects will have 15 tmcft of ‘water availability’ between them in a year, including eight tmcft between January and June.

The K.L. Rao Sagar project will help farmers in raising seed beds in June.

Super-speciality hospital

Mr. Parthasarathy said the Chief Minister was also likely to lay foundation for super-speciality hospital on government hospital premises in the city on the same day.

The proposed hospital is expected to be partly-funded by the Central government and necessary administrative clearances were to be secured before the given date.

The administrative block of NTR University of Health Sciences would have to be shifted to another location in the district. The Collector was asked to sanction 30 acres of assigned land available in Kanchikacharla or an equal extent of land belonging to the veterinary college at Gannavaram.
