The family members and relatives of a 35-year-old woman, who died of suspected uterine cancer while undergoing treatment at a private hospital at Suryaraopet on early hours on Monday, ransacked furniture on the premises, holding the doctors responsible for the death.

The woman, Nasreen, died after doctors performed hysterectomy on her on Sunday owing to post-surgery complications. Usman, a relative of Nasreen, told The Hindu that she underwent the first surgery last Monday in the same hospital and it was done again on the Sunday night. It was then that the doctors told her husband S.K. Firoz that her liver was badly damaged and needed transplantation. “The doctors did not properly explain the case details to us,” he said.

After Nasreen’s death, her family members and kin pelted stones on the hospital building. They even ransacked furniture and equipment on the premises. The police had to use force to disperse the irate family members. One person was taken into custody by the police for causing damage to the hospital.
