Kin blames husband for Kalyani’s death

April 17, 2014 12:05 am | Updated May 21, 2016 11:42 am IST - VIJAYAWADA:

Relatives of Chagantipati Kalyani on Wednesday alleged that her husband C. Subramanyeswara Rao was responsible for her death and also of their two children. The police booked Subramanyeswara Rao and his mother on charges of abetment to suicide.

Kalyani reportedly killed her two children and later hanged herself at her residence in Vambay Colony, on Tuesday. Rao, a private employee, said his wife had resorted to the extreme step when he was away.

However, Kalyani’s parents, who reached Vijayawada from Hyderabad today, blamed Rao for the deaths. They alleged that their daughter took the step unable to bear the harassment meted out by her husband.

“Based on the complaint from the victim’s kin, we altered Section 174 CrPc (Suicide) to Section 306 of IPC (Abetment to Suicide) against Mr. Rao and his mother. No arrests have been made so far,” Nunna Circle Inspector S. Vara Prasad, who is investigating the case, said.
