Residents of Seetharampuram and its vicinity on Sunday relished a unique experience of Chanda Thayampaka by percussionist Dileep Sukapuram, who has descended on the city along with his troupe (melam) to perform.

Striking with sticks the upper parchment of a cylindrical drum suspended from his neck, Mr. Dileep led the team in producing rhythms in uniform patterns.

Mr. Dileep and his team is part of the ongoing Devi Sarannavarathri Mahotsavamulu organised by the members of Sri Sri Sri Kanaka Durga Ammavari Panchaloha Swarna Prabha Mahotsavam. After the morning session, the artists took a break and took the centre stage again in the evening hours with their instruments.

“We will perform till the wee hours and it is a way of paying tributes to Goddess Kanaka Durga in our traditional way,” said Mr. Dileep.
