Panchayat poll code keeps senior Ministers away from meeting
The panchayat election code apparently marred the Ikya Kapunadu meeting held at Tummalapalli Kshetrayya Kalakshetram here on Wednesday.
None of the senior leaders or Ministers turned up for the meeting, though it was publicised that Ministers Thota Narasimham, Vatti Vasanta Kumar, C. Ramachandraiah, and Ganta Srinivasa Rao would address the gathering.
Official Language Commission Chairman Mandali Buddha Prasad and former Minister Kothapalli Subbarayudu garlanded the statue of cine actor S.V. Ranga Rao and left the premises.
Baring a few leaders such as A.P. Markfed chairman Kanchi Rama Rao, TDP Vijayawada (Central) in-charge Bonda Umamaheswara Rao, Krishna district Congress president Naraharisetti Narasimha Rao, most of the speakers were from Kapu associations.
The meeting called for united struggle for Kapus’ rights, reservations, and power. It was unfortunate that some unscrupulous elements were resorting to “black mailing,” taking shelter under the Kapu associations. The Ikya Kapunadu would function as an umbrella organisation for the development of Kapus.
The Ikya Kapu Mahanaudu was aimed at addressing multifarious issues, including political, faced by the Kapu community in the State, they said, adding the Kapus would have to emerge as formidable force.
The speakers alleged that no political party was interested in the uplift of the Kapus politically. Telaga Association president Kotaiah, and State Mahila Kapunadu president Miriyala Ratnakumari spoke.
