Kapus seek exclusive quota, welfare body

May 26, 2014 10:20 pm | Updated 10:20 pm IST - VIJAYAWADA:

The All India Kapu Telaga Balija Sangam has urged Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister-designate N. Chandrababu Naidu to provide 12 per cent exclusive reservation, besides establishing a Kapu Welfare Finance Corporation for socio-economic development of the community.

In the past, Kapu, Telaga, Balija communities were categorised as Backward Classes but since 1966, they were deprived of any reservation in the education sector and government jobs. The same was brought to the notice of Mr. Naidu during his padayatra at Ravulapalem in East Godavari district in 2013. Mr. Naidu had also acknowledged the issue and promised to take up measures for development of the communities, Medisetty Seshagiri, State general secretary of the sangam, claimed in a statement here on Monday.

A copy of the statement was submitted to Vijayawada Central Constituency MLA-elect Gadde Rammohan Rao. The sangam members appealed to Mr. Naidu to implement the 12 per cent reservation without affecting the existing BC reservations from this academic year (2014-15), for the benefit of Kapu community students.
