With just 10 days to go for the Dasara festival, arrangements are going on at a brisk pace at Kanakadurga temple here. Roads leading to the temple are being spruced up for the festival.

Supply of water sachets

Sri Durga Malleswara Swamyvarla Devasthanam will organise Dasara festival from September 25 to October 3. The Devasthanam is making arrangements with a budget of Rs. 4 crore for the festival being celebrated first time after division of the State.

Barricading works have gained momentum. The queue lines start from Vinayaka temple on canal road. Formation of queues, Annadanam, water supply, ghat road electrification, cloak rooms, chappal stand, toilets, and temporary dressing rooms are some of the arrangements being made for the devotees.

The devasthanam authorities are making arrangements for hassle-free darshan during the Dasara festivities. The temple management is making arrangements for supply of water sachets and extending medical assistance to devotees in the queue.

Sri Durga Malleswara Swamyvarla Devasthanam Executive Officer V. Trinadh Rao said that they estimated that Rs. 4 crore was required to make arrangements for Dasara festival.

The temple is making arrangements to provide ‘anna prasadam’ to 90,000 devotees during the festival. Eleven ‘prasadam’ counters would be made operational, he said.

Special counters

The temple authorities have planned to open ‘prasadam’ counters at Kanaka Durga Nagar and special counters would be in operation at railway station and bus station for the convenience of long-distance pilgrims visiting the temple.

The temple has planned to operate free bus services from the railway station and bus station to the bathing ghats and Vinayaka temple on the Canal Road. A free bus from Ashoka Pillar to Indrakeeladri would also be operated for the benefit of physically challenged and aged persons.

Every year, the temple invites tenders for works, including erection of shamiyanas, water supply, prasadam counter, etc.

Sanitation would be accorded top priority as thousands of people throng Indrakeeladri during the festival.

The ghats in the city were being spruced for the festival. The shower baths, toilets, information centres, dress changing rooms, medical aid etc would be available at the ghats, he said.
