Junior college celebrates 43rd anniversary

The Government Junior College in Akunuru celebrated its 43rd anniversary on Tuesday.

College principal D. Vijayasree presented the achievements of the college. She said the institution stood in fourth and second places in the district by securing 63 and 78 per cent pass percentages respectively in second and first year intermediate exams last year.

Vuyyuru Special Officer Velaga Joshi, who attended the anniversary celebrations thanked Secondary Education Minister Kolusu Parthasarathi for sanctioning Rs.20 lakh for constructing new buildings. He also praised the minister for increasing the salaries of contract lecturers.

Chief Guest and Regional Inspection Officer (Board of Intermediate Education) P. Brahmanandam said the BIE has sanctioned about Rs.2 lakh for acquiring new equipment in the laboratories.

Akunuru Government High School Head Master D. Sambasiva Rao assured to help in increasing the strength of the college next year. Later, certificates and cash awards were distributed to merit students and to those who stood top in essay writing and elocution competitions and sports.

Indian Overseas Bank Assistant Manager K.B.G. Tilak and others attended. The students performed cultural programmes on the occasion.
