The 110th birth anniversary of Loknaayak Jayaprakash Narayan was celebrated in a grand manner in the city on Tuesday.

The Poura Samaja Vedika activists garlanded the statue of Jayaprakash Narayan located in front of Tummalapalli Kshetrayya Kalakshetram here. The freedom fighters, socialists recollected the movement led by JP.

They also recounted the total revolution and anti corruption movement under the aegis of JP.

The corruption was ruling the roost, and scaling new heights under UPA government.

The 2G spectrum, KG Basin gas scams were few to mention the massive corruption that shook the country. The officials, government and corporate houses worked hand in glove to amass public wealth.

In 1970s, the youth took initiative and played key role in forcing the governments at Uttar Pradesh and Bihar to step down owing to corruption.

Taking a cue from them, the present generation should fight against the corruption, the speakers said.

Freedom Fighters Association Secretary Vaman Rao, Gannavaram MLA Dasari Balavardhana Rao, Vedika steering members T. Premnath, Malineni Naryan Prasad, railway employees leader Swamycharan and others were present.
