Mandavalli Sub Inspector (Law & order) R. Rajendra Prasad has received the Indian Police Medal for 2012 and is one among the 28 policemen belonging to Andhra Pradesh who received the medals for their committed service in their respective cadres.
Union Government has conferred the prestigious medal on 43-year-old Rajendra Prasad, belonging to Rajupuram village in Mopidevi mandal of Krishna district, in recognition of his service with the Greyhounds wing as Head Constable between 1992 and 1999.
“I served in the Agency areas of Andhra Pradesh and its borders shared with Odisha and Chhattisgarh during my stint with Greyhounds,” Mr. Prasad told The Hindu . The 1990s were the most crucial period for Andhra Pradesh police in curbing the activities of Left wing extremists in the Agency areas and promising peaceful living conditions there, he said.
Senior police officials said it was the AP State police authorities’ sole responsibility in tackling the Naxal groups, who were active in Godavari, Srikakulam, Vijayanagaram, Visakhapatnam, and Khammam districts. Mr. Rajendra Prasad, who joined the AP Police Service as a constable in 1989, became SI in 2012 as he excelled in every task with the key police wings – Special Branch, Greyhounds and Law and Order.
“I am not a competent authority to share the details of the operations I was involved in, but the journey with the Greyhounds is one of the challenging jobs,” said Mr. Prasad. He received the medal from Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy on August 15.
