Journalists oppose Anjaneyulu's posting

April 21, 2010 06:12 pm | Updated 06:12 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

The Indian Journalists' Union, AP Union of Working Journalists and AP Electronic Media Journalists' Association on Tuesday opposed the posting of P. S. R. Anjaneyulu as Vijayawada Police Commissioner in view of his ‘indictment' by the Press Council of India for the lathicharge on media persons on Osmania University campus.

In a statement, K. Amaranth, IJU secretary, Y. Narender Reddy, APUWJ general secretary, and Kranti Kumar, APEMJA general secretary, expressed surprise over the government's alleged insensitive attitude to the recommendations of the Press Council. They apprehended that Mr. Anjaneyulu would interfere with the freedom of the press on a day-to-day basis.
