A 35-year old Keshan Chatri, a native of Kamrup in Assam, created a flutter in the city by climbing a HT line tower near Ayush Hospital in the city on Thursday.
Mr. Chatri used to work in a private security agency based at Hyderabad. He was terminated from services recently.
Nearly 10-hour drama unfolded as he threatened to jump if his job was not restored immediately. Onlookers and staff on duty had tense moments as he almost jumped on a couple of occasions.
He climbed up the tower at around 5.30 a.m. and sat there till noon. Initially, he climbed the Ayush Hospital building. The staff there, however, sent him away.
The police, fire personnel and the APTransco employees had a tough time in convincing him to get down from the tower. Management consultant M. C. Das counselled him for more than two hours using a mega phone. But, he did not budge.
The police and the fire personnel put up safety nets and tents around the tower to ensure that he lands safely in case he jumped from the tower. The electricity employees gave him water bottles to save him from dehydration. An eight-member team of electricity employees succeeded in catching hold of him on the tower. They tied him with rope and brought down.
Former security man was sent to private hospital for treatment. His condition is said to be stable, and is likely to be shifted to the government hospital on Friday.
DCP M. Ravi Prakash, ACP K. Lavanya Lakshmi, Patamata CI Hari Krishna and others monitored the rescue operation.
