A 25-year-old youth was attacked by a girl, reported to be his lover, here on Monday evening. The victim, Ramu, was rushed to hospital, and his condition is stated to be stable.
According to Nandigama Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) D. Chinna Hussain, Ramani and Ramu were neighbours and were in love for some time. The girl had insisted that Ramu marry her, but the latter got married to another girl a few days ago.
On Monday evening, Ramani met Ramu. Even as the two were engaged in a conversation, the girl covered Ramu’s face with her chunni and slit his throat with a knife before fleeing the spot.
Police registered a case under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the IPC and arrested Ramani, the DSP said.
