The Jet Airways will resume direct flights from Vijayawada to Bengaluru from Thursday.
Jet Airways station manager Kannan Somasundaram giving the flight schedule told The Hindu that the Jet Connect flight would depart from Bengaluru at 6.10 a.m. and land at the Gannavaram Airport here at 7.45 a.m. It would then take off on the return journey at 8.15 a.m. to reach Bangalore at 10 a.m.
The station manager said that the airline would operate an ATR-72 on all seven days of the week. The airline operated a direct flight for two months when the airlines first began operations from Vijayawada airport in 2011. The service was discontinued for want of passengers. It was re-introducing the flight again, said Mr. Somasundaram.
Jet Connect and SpiceJet are operating two direct flights a day to Hyderabad and Air India is operating a flight to New Delhi via Hyderabad from Gannavaram.
Kingfisher, Jet Ariways, SpiceJet and Air India used to operate flights to Hyderabad, Chennai, Bengaluru and New Delhi from Vijayawada in the past. Currently the city is connected by air only to Hyderabad and Delhi only. A few days ago Air Costa of the LEPL Group with its headquarters in Vijayawada said that it would operate services to Hyderabad, Chennai, Bangaluru and a few other South Indian cities. The airline company even purchased two jets and has put them in the hangers at Gannavaram airport. The firm is however waiting for some clearances from the DGCA.
