Jayadev makes grand entry into politics

Romps home with a majority of over 70,000 votes over YSRC rival to win the Guntur LS seat

May 16, 2014 11:10 pm | Updated November 16, 2021 07:19 pm IST - GUNTUR:

It was a yellow surge which turned the tables in the district. The Telugu Desam Party made a telling comeback in Guntur district after 10 years winning 12 out of 17 Assembly segments and clinching all the three Lok Sabha segments of Guntur, Narsaraopet and Bapatla.

Industrialist-turned politician Jayadev Galla had a rousing start to a new innings on the political pitch. Managing Director of Amara Raja Batteries, Jayadev swept the polls by winning with a majority of over 70,000 votes over his nearest rival Vallabhaneni Balashowry of YSR Congress.

The TDP emerged a clear favourite of urban voters, particularly first timers, as it sailed over comfortably in Guntur West, Tenali and Ponnur Assembly segments.

In Tenali, senior party leader Alapati Rajendra Prasad won comfortably with a majority of 19,000 votes over his nearest rival A. Siva Kumar of YSRC.

The TDP could replicate the result in Guntur West where Modugula Venugopala Reddy won with a majority of 17,913 votes over his nearest rival Lella Appireddy of YSRC. Former Minister Kanna Lakshminarayana finished third after he secured 23,275 votes.

The party had a relatively easy going in Prathipadu and Tadikonda, the two reserved constituencies in Guntur Lok Sabha. Tenali Sravan Kumar won with a majority of 7,542 votes over his nearest rival H. Christina (YSRC). In Prathipadu, sitting YSRC MLA M. Sucharita lost to retired IRTC officer Ravela Kishore Babu.

The YSRC could register a win only in Guntur East where its candidate Sk. Mustada scraped though a narrow win by over 2,000 votes against Maddali Giridhar (TDP).
