Jagan’s tour to Krishna, Guntur put off

October 01, 2013 01:04 pm | Updated November 16, 2021 09:04 pm IST - VIJAYAWADA:

The mood at the YSR Congress camp in the city took a dent as senior leader of the party Y.V. Subba Reddy announced that the CBI court has not accorded permission to party’s president Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy to tour other parts of the State for the time-being.

Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy was expected to tour the twin districts of Guntur and Vijayawada on October 4 and address a massive rally of farmers under the banner ‘Samaikya Ryhtu Sangramam’. It may be recalled that Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy was released on bail on September 23, after being confined in Hyderabad’s Chanchalguda jail for about 16 months on corruption charges.

And immediately on release Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy sent a feeler that he would like to resume his Odarpu Yatra from Guntur, from where it was suddenly curtailed due to his arrest by the CBI.

Taking a cue from this, the party members planned the farmers rally and meet. The party members in the two districts were in a preparatory mode for the grand re-launch of the yatra and the farmers meet, and it is believed that Mr. Subba Reddy was here to oversee the arrangements, but on his way to the city he was informed that the court negated the permission.

The cadres even expected that his mother and the party’s honorary president Y.S. Vijayamma would take it up if the court does not give permission to Mr. Jagan. But even that now seems to be ruled out, as party sources say that Mr. Jagan is keen on re-launching the yatra himself. YSR Congress Krishna district convener Samineni Udaya Bhanu said that there was an attempt to address the issue once again to the CBI court. “For the time-being Mr. Jagan was given permission to pay respects at his father’s grave in Pulivendula in Kadapa district. And moreover, the tour was postponed not cancelled, let’s be optimistic,” he said.

Stir to continue

Mr. Bhanu also informed The Hindu that programmes concerning the Samaikyandhra agitation would continue at the respective constituencies as scheduled.

Giving details he said that on October 2 each constituency would organise a relay fast, on October 10 a farmers rally will be organised at the mandal level and a massive public meeting was being planned at Hyderabad between October 15 and 20.
