‘Government has diluted the welfare schemes launched by YSR'
Some 1000 students and supporters of former Kadapa MP Y S Jaganmohan Reddy blocked vehicular traffic on the arterial Chennai-Kolkata highway for an hour in protest against the state government's alleged indifferent attitude towards the fast by the son of the YSR.
As many as 30 key leaders who led the stir were arrested as a large number of vehicles on the both the sides were stranded, Ongole Circle Inspector U Naga Raju said.
Students in large numbers wearing the YSR mask raised slogans demanding immediate release of funds for fee reimbursement and scholarship by the government.
Leading the protest, B Brahamanadha Reddy, who was fully involved in the arrangements for the ''Odarpu yatra'' in the district in September last, alleged that the Kiran Kumar Reddy Government had diluted the welfare schemes initiated by late Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy.
He said the protest by Mr Jaganmohan Reddy had evoked very good public response. But the Chief Minister had not even called the legislators who had joined Mr Jaganmohan Reddy in the fast, to discuss the demand even as the health condition of the scion of YSR deteriorated. In contrast, the Government had been on the toes when TDP leader N Chandrababu Naidu had embarked on indefinite fast earlier, he added.
