‘Jagan has no right to demand SCS’

September 24, 2016 12:00 am | Updated November 01, 2016 08:40 pm IST - VIJAYAWADA:

Minister for Water Resources Devineni Umamaheswara Rao on Friday asked YSR Congress president Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy why he was not questioning Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu on the failure of the Centre to give Special Category Status (SCS) to Andhra Pradesh.

Reacting to Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy’s meeting with college students in Eluru on Thursday, Mr. Umamaheswara Rao said that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, who was being targeted for the State not getting SCS, had spoken to the media immediately after the Centre announced the special package. The YSR Congress leader did not give his reaction to the package till date, the Minister said.

Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy, who never spoke a single word in Parliament when benefits for Andhra Pradesh were being debated, had no moral right to demand SCS, Mr. Umamaheswara Rao said.

Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy, who has 12 CBI and Enforcement Directorate cases pending against him and has to compulsorily attend court every Friday, had no moral right to interact with students, the Minister said.

“What is he going to share with the students? Details of the 16 months he spent in jail?” he questioned.

He also accused the opposition party of trying to obstruct development of the State.
