When two South Koreans Hyunho Kim and Junho Kim played the guitar and sang a Telugu song “Nalone Pongenu Narmada” from ‘Surya Son of Krishnan’ movie, the environs of Maris Stella College in Vijayawada erupted with cheers and claps.

So was the case, when International Youth Fellowship (IYF) members failing from different countries, danced to popular Bollywood tunes. There was a tinge of African, Korean and of course Indian culture at the IYF World Camp organised at the college on Tuesday.

IYF is a worldwide youth organisation working for the cause of youth problems through individuals from various fields and levels. IYF works on developing leaders of the next generation and construction of a healthy society.

As part of this initiative, the organisation conducts world camps in different countries to realise a comprehensive global outlook through cultural understanding among youngsters.

The camp, which is conducted in the city for the first time, aims to instil hope and positive energy in youngsters, who flounder in hopelessness, through guest lectures, music shows, cultural performances, international symposiums, says IYF Bangalore Director Tommy Hinderson.

Members work a lot towards this initiative like the case of Hyunho Kim and Junho Kim, who learnt to sing a Telugu song just a week before arriving in the city. Organisers here transliterated the lyrics and mailed the video of the song through YouTube.

It was not just about dance and cultural performances, individuals shared their tough times like drug addiction, fighting with cancer and how they overcame the challenges. Organisers are planning to conduct similar camps at Siddhartha Academy at Mogalrajpuram on Wednesday and at Dhanekula Engineering College on Thursday.
